OCD ARTWORKS

Most everything I see has potential to be implemented in my art. I find inspiration from the elements of nature to discarded construction materials. I frequently acquire my unusual materials without having any idea how I will be using them, but over time they manage to become invaluable to one of my art projects.

I am an enthusiast of art in all of its forms. As an emerging artist, I am influenced and inspired by viewing other artists’ creations. As I admire their works, I feel them with all of my senses. I cannot see a work of art with just my eyes. I am compelled to touch it. I want to listen to the artist discuss what their work means to them and what inspires them. I want to create a personal relationship with the art that I view and the art I create. I want to physically and emotionally feel it in my body.

Textures, colors and unusual concepts intrigue me. As I am a tactile person, I indulge my need to touch most everything of interest that I see. I create my art with the intention of drawing the viewer in – to merge into my art –
with all of their senses. My work is meant to be explored physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Not having a conventional art education, I allow my art to evolve without boundaries, unfolding from my life experiences. Being a non-conformist I resist the fundamental rule of dating my art. I feel that a work of art is timeless. I do not title my art because I don’t want to influence the viewer with my own interpretations. Part of the pleasure of viewing art is seeing it from one’s own perspective.

Creating a work of art is therapeutic as it arises from my subconscious and connects me to the Divine within me, allowing me to practice loving myself more fully. It is like a shedding of old skin, a releasing of old wounds, and walking through my fears to connect with the Now and to embrace the perfection of my imperfections. Working in my studio I am filled with an attitude of gratitude. It is my hope that my imaginative creations and my positive outlook on life will inspire others to believe in themselves and their dreams and unleash their inner artist through whatever expression lies hidden within them.

PETRINA SHARP | FINE ARTIST

My name is Petrina Sharp and my purpose as an artist is to create art that is aesthetically pleasing and that communicates to others. I prefer bold color and incorporate techniques of the old masters. I work in oil, acrylic & mixed media. I also create murals and faux finishes.

YESSICA TORRES

YESSICA TORRES

GUNMONKEY ART

THE ARTIST

Yessíca Torres is the mixed media artist behind Gunmonkey Art. Her work is striking, aggressive and heavily pop influenced. The strong imagery she portrays is done with provoking intentions and periodic societal contempt. Yessíca’s artwork has exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, New York, Miami and internationally for the first time in 2014 in Toronto, Canada.

THE ASSASSIN

Is a Southern California based gunmonkey, with an affinity for pop art and firearms. Widely considered the first guerrilla girl, she has shaped modern society with her high profile paintings and culturally significant kills. Her life as an assassin began at the age of nine when she dropped out of parochial classes and picked up a revolver. The lucrative kill contracts she carried out allowed her to follow her true passions, painting and poetry … and so, Gunmonkey Art was born.

LISA CAREN

LISA CAREN

PHOTOGRAPHER

From the very first, I was driven to follow an artistic life: I was born in the historic village of Woodstock NY, the arts center of the Catskill Mountains, host to the Hudson River School of painters during the late 1800s. The Arts and Crafts Movement came to Woodstock in 1902, with the arrival of Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead, Bolton Brown and Hervey White. My own neighborhood was ripe with artists such as painter/pianist Marilyn Hauser and suculptor Sylva Hutchins.

Thus inspired I studied photography & theatre in my youth and traveled. I lived in the south of France for 12 years, where I was inspired by artists, such as the contemporary artists Donna Flandrin, Vanina Cristofari and Armand Avril. Once back in the States, Leica D-LUX in hand, I turned to photography. I choose to specialize in the large format photos to capture the wide panorama of nature that one sees from the border of land and sea. These shots were taken from Rhode Island’s coast, Coastal North Carolina and the Riviera.

Each picture uses a Premium Archival mount designed specifically for museums, galleries and artists to protect images from moisture damage. The images are sandwiched between polished Plexiglas and anodized aluminum for added protection and finished with aluminum tube brace to prevent warping over time.

MARIANA PEIRANO

MARIANA PEIRANO

FIGURATIVE ARTIST

I was born an artist yet at some point in my early adult life I unconsciously moved away from that idea and became an elementary school teacher. During those years, my art was limited to creating classroom materials for my students and my own children. Now, more than twenty years later, I return to my true nature and I’m an artist again. My concern for the human condition, which has permeated my life, is reflected in my artwork. The art I constantly feel driven to create is figurative. The grace and beauty of the human body and the perplexity of facial expressions are all recurring themes in my work. I see the human form as a vessel that holds infinite beauty and truth. Recently my art has evolved to become an expression of my spiritual growth and awareness. I believe art is a powerful healing force that can help us get closer to our truth.

NOVA CLITE

NOVA CLITE

mixed media

Nova Clite is a persistent noodler in all things “art” and looks forward to sharing her growing grab bag of strange, interesting, and possibly artistic things with visitors to The HUD Gallery + Studios. Integrating found, crafted, and purchased objects, Nova plays with design, color, light, and subject matter to create pieces that are both decorative and challenging. A sometimes poet, she may surprise you with a reading if you’re not paying attention. Fortunately, she mostly sings to herself. Nova is an environmental professional who has been working to clean up soil and water contamination for the past 20 some years. She looks forward to retirement in a few years with hopes her artistic pursuits will keep her as busy as TCE and its degradation products have, but with more fun.
